Choosing pest control software for small companies comes down to a few questions: can it run quarterly and bi-monthly plans without babysitting, does it catch the customers who skipped a service, what does it cost once you have three technicians, and do you need a chemical-usage log for compliance? This article compares GorillaDesk, Jobber, and ProTyz (that's us) against those questions, with the real per-tech math and a clear statement of what each one doesn't do.

Prices are as of mid-2026. Check each vendor's pricing page before deciding.

What a small pest control company needs

  • Recurring plans as the default. Most residential revenue is quarterly or bi-monthly general pest service, with monthly for mosquito programs. The schedule has to roll forward and the plan price has to be right every time.
  • A way to catch skipped services. A quarterly client who missed a quarter is a churn risk and a lost visit. Someone has to notice and call before the second quarter slips.
  • Initial service plus recurring. Pricing usually has a higher first visit and a lower recurring rate. The software needs to represent both.
  • Technicians and routes. Two or three techs each with a geographic day. Route order matters, and nobody should be assigned two stops at the same time.
  • Compliance records. Depending on your state, you may need application records: product, EPA number, amount, target pest, location. This is a real requirement, not a nice-to-have.
  • Predictable cost. Per-tech or per-route pricing can double your software bill the day you hire.

How ProTyz handles it

ProTyz is a free CRM, booking website, and scheduling platform for local service businesses. Pest Control is one of ten launched service lines.

Quarterly and bi-monthly plans. Set up "General Pest Service" with priced inputs that fit your model: home square-footage tier, number of structures, or a per-treatment quantity. Add extras like exterior-only, garage, or rodent stations. The frequency ladder covers the standard cadences, so the customer chooses quarterly, bi-monthly, or monthly and sees the discounted recurring rate live on your booking page. Base price, priced inputs, extras, frequency discount, coupons, fees, minimum price, and tax stack in that order, and the final price is snapshotted onto the booking.

Quote-first for termite and wildlife. Anything that needs an inspection can be quote-first: the customer submits a quote request from your site, you send a line-item quote, they accept via a link, and it becomes a booking.

Top Opportunities for skipped quarters. This is the feature most relevant to pest control. The rule engine flags a quarterly client who skipped a quarter, a bi-monthly client who is overdue, and a one-time customer who hasn't been back in a year. Each appears on the Overview card and in the full Opportunities tab with a one-click reach-out and an editable draft. Email reach-out is on Free; SMS reach-out is on Pro. A Monday digest lists the week's opportunities. It never messages a client on its own; you always press send.

Technicians and routes. Team members are unlimited on every plan with no per-user or per-route fee. Each tech has qualifications, a schedule, and unavailability, and the system prevents double-booking, including across service lines if you also do lawn or pool. The Routes tab does day-route optimization. Techs use the mobile PWA at /mobile: job list, GPS check-in with a geofence, photos, start and complete, earnings. Time entries roll into payroll runs with overtime and CSV export.

Reminders, reviews, messaging. Email confirmations and 24-hour reminders on Free; 1-hour SMS reminders with CONFIRM/CANCEL replies on Pro ($10/month flat). A signed review-request link goes out after completed jobs, and a two-way messaging inbox handles replies.

Invoicing. Free on both plans. Build an invoice from scratch, from a completed service, or from an accepted quote, email it to the customer, send a reminder if it goes unpaid, and record the payment when it arrives. QuickBooks Online sync is on Pro.

What ProTyz does not have: a chemical-usage log. There is no application record, no product or EPA-number tracking, no device barcoding. If your state requires application records in your scheduling system, or you run bait-station programs that need per-device history, ProTyz doesn't cover that today. You'd keep those records elsewhere.

What GorillaDesk does better

GorillaDesk was built for pest control first, and it shows in two areas ProTyz doesn't touch:

  • Device barcoding. Rodent stations, termite monitors, and insect light traps can be barcoded and scanned on each visit, with per-device history. For commercial accounts with audit requirements, this is a big deal.
  • Chemical tracking. Product, concentration, amount, target pest, and application site are recorded on the job and available for state reporting.

It also takes card payments in the field and its recurring-service and invoicing tools are mature.

The per-route math. GorillaDesk is priced per route at $49 Basic, $99 Pro, and $149 Growth as of mid-2026. A route is effectively a technician's schedule. For three techs:

  • Basic: 3 × $49 = $147/month
  • Pro: 3 × $99 = $297/month
  • Growth: 3 × $149 = $447/month

Hiring a fourth tech adds $49 to $149 on top. ProTyz for the same three-tech company is $0, or $10/month total on Pro for SMS and a custom domain. That gap is real, but so is the chemical log, so weigh them honestly.

Where Jobber fits

Jobber is a general field-service platform rather than a pest specialist. Its strengths are invoicing, QuickBooks sync, card payments, phone support, and mature mobile apps. Pricing is Core $39 for one user, Connect $119, Grow $199; team plans are Connect $169 for 5 users and Grow $349 for 10, with extra users at $29/month. Recurring jobs work well. It doesn't have pest-specific chemical logging or device barcoding, so pest companies on Jobber usually keep application records on paper or in a separate app.

Who should pick what

Pick GorillaDesk if you need chemical tracking and device barcoding inside the same system as your schedule, especially for commercial accounts or states with strict reporting. The per-route price is the cost of that depth. Many small pest companies will land here, and that's the right call.

Pick Jobber if card payments in the field, deep accounts-receivable tooling with net terms for commercial accounts, and phone support matter more to you than pest-specific features, and you're comfortable keeping application records separately.

Pick ProTyz if you're a one- to five-tech residential company whose main problems are getting quarterly clients to book online, keeping them on cadence, and noticing when someone skips, and you already handle application records another way. It's free, there's no per-tech fee, the booking website is included, and the Opportunities engine is built for exactly the skipped-quarter case. It's also the fit if you run pest alongside lawn or pool and want one client list. Invoicing is free and QuickBooks sync comes with Pro. Be clear-eyed about the gaps that remain: no chemical log, no barcoding, no card capture, a lighter accounts-receivable side than Jobber, in-app tickets instead of phone support, and a PWA rather than an app-store app.

FAQ

Does ProTyz track chemical applications for pest control? No. There is no chemical-usage log or device barcoding. If your state requires application records in your scheduling system, GorillaDesk is the better choice for that.

How does ProTyz handle a client who skipped a quarter? Top Opportunities flags them, drafts a reach-out you can edit, and you send it by email (Free) or SMS (Pro). Nothing is sent automatically.

What does GorillaDesk cost for three technicians? As of mid-2026, roughly $147 to $447 a month depending on tier, because it's priced per route. Check their pricing page for current figures.

Can customers book a quarterly plan online with ProTyz? Yes. They pick the service, size inputs and extras, choose quarterly or bi-monthly, see the recurring price, and book a real open slot.

Can I run pest and lawn in one ProTyz account? Yes. Service lines are unlimited, sharing one client list and one team, with a cross-line check so a tech can't be booked twice.
