Junk removal is a volume business with a truck-sized pricing problem. Customers want a number before you show up, but the number depends on how much fits in the truck, whether there is a fridge, and how many flights of stairs are between the junk and the curb. Good junk removal software lets you price the common jobs online, route the big ones through a quote, and keep a small crew moving without paying software fees per person.

This article compares Jobber, Workiz, Housecall Pro and ProTyz for a crew of one to ten. We build ProTyz, so weigh the verdict accordingly, but we have tried to be fair about where the other three are ahead.

What a junk removal crew needs from software

Load-size pricing tiers. Minimum load, quarter, half, three-quarter and full truck. Most of your residential jobs fit one of these, and a customer who can pick "about half a truck" online and see a price will book without calling.

Item surcharges. Mattresses, appliances with refrigerant, tires, paint, TVs and heavy items like pianos or hot tubs. These are extras with their own price, not a reason to abandon online booking.

Quote-first for cleanouts. Estate cleanouts, hoarding situations, garages you cannot see the floor of, commercial tenant turnovers. You want photos or a walkthrough first, then a written quote the customer accepts.

Same-day and next-day availability. A lot of junk removal is impulse. Someone decides on Saturday morning that the garage is getting done today. If your booking page shows real open slots, you win that job; if it shows a contact form, you might not.

Photos on every job. Before and after, plus a photo of the load in the truck. It settles disputes and it is the best content you will ever post.

Crew scheduling without per-seat fees. A typical crew is two people on a truck, sometimes two trucks. Software that charges per user quietly doubles when you add a truck.

How ProTyz handles it

ProTyz is a free CRM, booking website and scheduling platform for local service businesses. Junk Removal is one of the ten launched service lines, with its own template and a pre-filled service catalogue you edit.

Load-size tiers as priced inputs

Set up a "Junk removal" service with a tiered input: minimum load, quarter, half, three-quarter, full truck, each with a price. Add extras as priced checkboxes: mattress, refrigerator or freezer, tires, TV, stairs beyond the first floor, long carry from the curb. Optional inputs like quantity of large items handle the piano case. The pricing engine adds base, inputs and extras, applies a coupon, enforces your minimum price, adds tax and any fee, and shows an itemised quote before the customer picks a time. The price is snapshotted on the booking.

For property managers and repeat commercial clients, the frequency ladder lets you offer a discount for weekly or monthly pickups.

Same-day availability, for real

The booking page shows only slots that are actually free on your calendar, across your crews. If you keep a truck open on Saturday afternoons, that slot is visible and bookable. If both trucks are out, the customer sees the next real opening instead of booking a time you cannot make. Confirmation goes out by email on Free and SMS on Pro, and clients on Pro can reply CONFIRM or CANCEL by text so you are not chasing no-shows.

Quote-first for the big cleanouts

Flag estate cleanouts, hoarding, construction debris and commercial work as quote-first. The customer submits a request with details and photos; it lands in your Quote Requests tab. You build a line-item quote (labor, disposal fees, extras, deposit if you take one), send it, and the customer accepts through a link. The accepted quote becomes a booking, and once the job is done that booking or quote can be turned into an invoice: invoicing is free on both plans, sends by email with a client link, and records payments as they come in.

Photos, crews and routes

On the mobile PWA at /mobile, each crew member sees their job list, checks in with GPS inside a geofence, attaches photos to the job (before, after, loaded truck), and marks it complete. Team members are unlimited, with schedules and unavailability, and Routes builds a day route per crew from the booked jobs so you are not driving from the north side to the south side and back. Time entries feed Payroll.

Top Opportunities for junk removal

Junk removal is less seasonal than gutters, but repeat work exists: the landlord who calls every turnover, the realtor with a listing every few months, the customer who did the garage last spring and mentioned the basement. Top Opportunities flags lapsed and overdue clients with an editable draft message; you press send by email (Free) or SMS (Pro). It never messages anyone on its own.

Pricing

Free is $0 forever: booking site on yourbusiness.protyz.com, unlimited bookings, clients and team members, quotes, inbox, calendar, routes, payroll, analytics, email reminders, review requests, Top Opportunities with email reach-out. Pro is $10 a month flat, month to month, adding SMS and one custom domain. No per-user fees, no contracts, no card to start.

What Jobber, Workiz and Housecall Pro do well

Jobber has the strongest invoicing and accounts-receivable tooling, QuickBooks sync, in-app card payments, phone support and a mature native mobile app. Its client hub for approving quotes and paying is polished. As of mid-2026, Core is $39 a month for one user, Connect $119, Grow $199; team plans are $169 for five users (Connect) and $349 for ten (Grow), with extra users at $29 a month. Check the vendor's pricing page.

Workiz is built around dispatch-heavy trades and has features junk haulers like: a call-tracking and phone system, dispatching board, franchise-style multi-location support and card payments. As of mid-2026, Kickstart is $187 a month, Standard $229, Pro $270, with extra users at $30. Check the vendor's pricing page.

Housecall Pro offers a consumer-friendly booking widget with fixed-price services, card payments, QuickBooks sync, phone support and a well-tested native app. As of mid-2026, Basic is $79 a month for one user, Essentials $189 for up to five, MAX $329, extra users $35. Check the vendor's pricing page.

The per-user math for a four-person crew

Say you run two trucks with two people each and you want everyone on the app. As of mid-2026:

  • Jobber Connect team plan: $169 a month for five users. Roughly $2,028 a year.
  • Workiz Kickstart: $187 base; if the base seat count does not cover four, extra users are $30 each. Somewhere between $2,244 and $3,000 a year depending on included seats.
  • Housecall Pro Essentials: $189 a month for up to five users. Roughly $2,268 a year.
  • ProTyz: $0 a year on Free, or $120 a year on Pro with SMS and a custom domain.

Software alone is not a reason to switch, but per-seat pricing is the line item that grows fastest when you add a truck.

Who should pick what

Pick Jobber if you have commercial and property-management accounts on net terms and need deep AR aging, statements and phone support. It is the best back office of the four.

Pick Workiz if you run inbound calls at volume and want the phone system, call tracking and dispatch board in one place. It is priced for a business that already has a dispatcher.

Pick Housecall Pro if you want an all-in-one with card payments on site and a familiar booking widget, and you are comfortable with per-seat pricing.

Pick ProTyz if you are one or two trucks, mostly residential, you want the half-truck job to book itself at a real price and a real time, the estate cleanout to come in as a quote request with photos, and you do not want to pay per crew member. If you also do light demo, handyman work or cleaning after the haul, that goes under the same login as another service line with one client list.

The honest gap: no card capture yet, thinner accounts-receivable tooling than Jobber (no net-terms statements or AR aging), and no built-in phone system. If you take payment on site by whatever method you already use and your admin is mostly bookings, quotes and crew scheduling, that gap is small. If you bill and chase, it is not.

FAQ

Can customers book junk removal online by load size? Yes. Set tiered inputs for minimum, quarter, half, three-quarter and full loads, with item extras such as mattresses and appliances. The customer sees an itemised price and only genuinely free time slots.

How do I handle big cleanouts that need a look first? Flag them quote-first. The customer submits a request with photos, you send a line-item quote, and they accept through a link. The accepted quote becomes the booking.

Does adding a second truck crew cost more? No. Team members are unlimited on Free and Pro. Pro is a flat $10 a month for SMS and a custom domain, regardless of headcount.

Can crews attach photos to jobs? Yes. The mobile PWA at /mobile lets each crew member check in with GPS, attach before, after and loaded-truck photos, and mark the job complete.

Does ProTyz send invoices or take card payments? Invoices yes: invoicing is free on both plans, and QuickBooks Online sync is on Pro. Card payments no. Deposits are recorded on the booking rather than charged, and clients cannot pay an invoice online yet, so Jobber, Workiz and Housecall Pro are stronger on card payments and AR depth today.
